Metals, Natural Stone, Glass & Painted Furniture Care Instructions

General Care

As with wood furniture, use felt pads on any hard objects that are placed directly on metal, stone, glass, or painted furniture. Always use coasters, trivets, and placemats or tablecloths to prevent heat and liquids from having direct contact with surfaces. Never use abrasive cleaners, chemical solvents, strong detergents, cleaners with bleach, and furniture polish, all of which can erode or scratch the finish.

Remember that improper use of your metal, stone, glass, or painted furniture can damage your piece. Damage caused by use beyond that for which your furniture is intended is not covered under any warranty.

Metal Furniture

Metal furniture- stainless steel, aluminum, wrought iron, bronze, and brass- is easy to maintain. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth. Promptly wipe up spills then clean with a damp cloth and wipe dry. A multi-surface cleaner can be used on stainless steel furniture to remove spots, smudges, and smears.

Stone Furniture

Stone furniture- including granite, slate, bluestone, marble, and travertine- can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth and wiped dry. More porous stones such as marble quickly absorb liquids; always immediately blot spills to prevent staining on any type of stone top. Some stones, over time, will develop a patina that creates variations in color. Such coloration is not considered a defect, rather is a natural occurrence that adds to the character of the furniture.

Glass Furniture

Do not slide rough objects across glass as doing so can cause permanent scratches to the surface. To clean glass, use a non-abrasive commercial glass cleaner or use warm water and a soft, lint-free cloth. Dry immediately with a dry, lint-free cloth.

Painted Furniture

Dust or wipe clean your painted furniture with a damp cloth weekly. Completely dry the surface so watermarks do not appear. If water spots dry, they may leave permanent marks. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on painted finishes, as such products can be quite damaging. To clean painted furniture, damped a soft cloth with a mixture of warm water and liquid dishwashing detergent. Wring the cloth as much as possible to remove excess liquid and lightly rub the surface in a circular motion. Dry the surface immediately with a clean, soft towel.
